In Spring Semester 2009 I am scheduled to teach the following courses:
MAT 6603 Optimization Techniques Spring 2009 MW 7:00-8:15pm
Course covers the analysis of optimization techniques with
applications to operations research, engineering, and the
sciences. After briefly reviewing multi-variable calculus
and numerical linear algebra, we will cover methods for minimizing
a function of several variables, including steepest descent and
Newton's method for unconstrained minimization; the model-trust
region approach; hybrid methods such as Levenberg-Marquardt; nonlinear
least squares; how to incorporate constraints. Linear programming with
the simplex method, Karmarkar's interior point method, integer programming.
As time permits, we will discuss very recent work on ?1 optimization.
Prerequisites: MAT 2213 (Calculus III) and MAT 2233 (Linear Algebra),
or consent of instructor.
