GREGORY P. WENE, Ph. D
Professor of Applied Mathematics
Department of Applied Mathematics
The University of Texas at San Antonio
B.A. Mathematics, University of Texas, 1964
M.A. Mathematics, University of Texas, 1970
Ph.D. Mathematics, University of Iowa, 1978
BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION:
Dr. Wene is an established mathematician with
diverse mathematical interests that include teaching, popularizing,
creating and applying mathematics. He participated in establishing
and served as coordinator for the developmental mathematics program
at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). Dr. Wene is the
sponsor for the statewide mathematics contests presented by the Texas
Math and Science Coaches Association held annually at UTSA. In
addition, his name has appeared more than 30 times as author and/or
solver of mathematics problems in various mathematics journals. Dr.
Wene has more than 35 research publications in the diverse areas of
non-associative algebra, mathematical physics and finite geometry.
Currently, he is expanding his research efforts into the field of
space weather.
Dr. Wene began his
scientific career as a high school student collecting and classifying
insects with his father, George P. Wene, Ph. D., and while working at
the Texas A&M Agricultural Experiment Station #15 in Weslaco,
Texas.
