I was born in Atlanta, Georgia early on a frosty mornin' -- March 2nd, 1952. My parents moved to Columbus the next fall and it was there I spent my childhood and teen-age years. After high school I lived in Charlottesville, Virginia where I attended UVA. In 1974 I moved to Athens, Georgia and enrolled in the masters in mathematics program at the University of Georgia. After a wonderful, but lengthy (12 years), sojourn in Athens during which I received my masters in mathematics, taught middle and high school mathematics, worked on a doctorate in mathematics, actively served the regional ASPCA, got married, adopted a dozen or so dogs and cats, finally earned a doctorate in mathematics education, and apparently never learned to write concise sentences, I accepted a position as an Assistant Professor in Mathematics at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. My wife and I moved our quadrupedal menagerie to the countryside near Midland, NC where we grew corn, squash, beans, blueberries, watermelons, tomatoes, etc. and a couple of children -- Alec and Eleanor -- as well. In 1992, after 6 1/2 years in NC, I accepted an offer to come to UTSA as an Associate Professor and, after filling a couple of vehicular arks to the bulkheads for the move over, I began work here in January 1993.

I live in the Boerne area, have a small (100 acre) ranch near Pipe Creek that I'm fixing up for my horses, goats and cows. I’m down to only 4 dogs and, sadly, no cats, but support dozens of raccoons, skunks, possums, deer, and a family of bobcats out at the ranch -- not to mention my paint (Custer) and some cows.

I enjoy camping, hiking, trail-riding, sports, and the outdoors in general. But I'm also partial to classical and country music, Broadway shows, the visual arts, and absurdist drama.
