About Us

The Department of Mathematics offers the following degree programs:
Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (Mathematics, General Mathematical Studies)
Master of Science in Mathematics (Mathematics, Mathematics Education)
Master of Science in Applied Mathematics-Industrial Mathematics

Currently, the Department is preparing to submit a proposal for a PhD in Mathematics.
Members of the Mathematics faculty share a strong commitment to quality teaching and research in the areas of mathematics and mathematics education, several having won University awards for teaching, research, or service. They provide a stimulating environment for students to pursue undergraduate and graduate programs. Eligible undergraduate and graduate mathematics students can be supported through major initiatives such as the Department's Teacher Quality Grants , the Noyce Scholarship Program , and the UMB Scholars Program .

The Department of Mathematics has nationally recognized research scholars in Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations, Functional Analysis, Numerical Analysis, Dynamical Systems, Algebra, Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, Statistics, Analytic Number Theory, Logic, Applied Mathematics and Mathematics Education. Several of our faculty serve as editors of national and international journals and have held leadership positions in a variety of professional organizations. Currently, the faculty are recipients of over $2 million in federally funded research and development grants
